…Did you know that the Pyrex glass ovenware range features an oval roaster with a rack allowing your meat to roast separately from its juices? The steel rack keeps the food two centimeters above the bottom of the glass roaster thus enabling the meat to roast separately from its fat. Once it is cooked, simply lift the rack out of the glass roaster. This system provides a clean, healthy and easy way to roast and serve your meats as well as collect the juices for your sauces and your gravies.

DYED EGGS

Supplies for egg dye:
• Eggs
• Food colouring
• Colouring agents available in the home:
 ▪ Onion skins - yellow ochre
 ▪ Beetroot - pink
 ▪ Methylene blue - mauve blue
 ▪ Safran - golden yellow
 ▪ Do some tests to see how they come out.
• Vegetable dyes that can be bought in a chemist or drugstore :
 ▪ Cochineal - mauve or purple
 ▪ Sandalwood - yellow orange
 ▪ Madder root dye - red
 ▪ Walnut stain - dark brown or black
 ▪ Do some tests with whatever you can find.
 ▪ A large saucepan
 ▪ A ladle

Procedure for dyeing eggs

• Place the eggs very carefully in the saucepan and fill with enough water to cover them completely (there should be 3 to 4 cm of water above the eggs).
• Cook the eggs over medium heat for 45 to 60 minutes. Caution: do not boil because the eggs could crack.
• During this time, prepare the dye baths.
• When your eggs are fully cooked, submerge them for 5 to 10 minutes in the dye bath of your choice. To avoid breaking them, place them on the bottom of the pan with a ladle.
• Remove the eggs from the dye and rinse to remove any deposits and excess dye.
• Wipe them dry, then glaze them with a cloth moistened with cooking oil.

You will obtain beautiful, brightly coloured eggs which you can also decorate with stickers, spangles, ribbons, cut-out designs or paint. You can keep them as long as you like. Over time, the contents will dry out and harden.

Your sugar will not go lumpy if you add a slice of apple before storing it.
