Corning inc. produces the 1st light bulb for Thomas Edison
1912
Development of borosilicate heat resistant glass for use in railroad signal lanterns for the American Railway company
1915
As an experiment, James Littleton, Corning’s laboratory physicist asked his wife to bake a cake in the base of a heat resistant glass lamp. The attempt was a success, and Pyrex ovenware was born. The first Pyrex product to be launched a 25cm pie plate sold for $ 0.69.
1961
Invention of vitro-ceramic glass: first used in the space travel industry, soon adapted to cookware for use in the oven and on top of the stove under the brand Pyroflam.
1994
Newell Rubbermaid purchased the Pyrex plants from Corning and acquired the brand licensing rights in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
2004
Launch of new ranges and new materials (metal bakeware, ceramic ovenware, stainless steel cookware for top of stove, plastic cookware for the microwave)
2006
Arc International acquires Pyrex and launches Arcuisine
2007
Launch of Pyrex Elegance, premium brand
2008
Launch of the new Pyrex Classic metal bakeware range
2009
Launch of the Pyrex Minis glass collection with 4 classic mini shapes.
2010
2010: Pyrex becomes the first brand with a complete offer across all cookware materials:
• Complete ovenware offer: with 2 new ceramic ranges
• Complete top of stove offer: 3 aluminum, 2 stainless steel, 1 enameled steel, 3 cast iron, 1 cast aluminum.
